⚡ Speed Tips

  • • Enable Speed Mode for the fastest processing
  • • Use "Stream Copy" quality for videos (no re-encoding)
  • • AAC audio with Speed Mode uses stream copying
  • • Lower bitrates (96k) encode faster
  • • Ultra Fast and Fast presets prioritize speed
  • • Shorter clips process faster
  • • Videos already in the output format stream copy faster

💡 General Tips

  • • Videos without audio can only be muted
  • • Upload a video with audio to extract the audio file
  • • MP3 plays on every device
  • • WAV is uncompressed
  • • Higher bitrates = better audio but slower

Why People Use PixDuplicate's Audio Remover

Pull the Audio Out

Extract the soundtrack as a standalone file. Useful when you want the audio for something else—a podcast edit, a transcript, a reference track.

Or Mute the Video

Strip the audio and get a clean silent clip. Video quality stays exactly the same—only the audio track goes away.

Just a Section, Not the Whole Thing

Set a start and end time and only process that range. Don't need the first five minutes of a lecture? Skip them.

Nothing Gets Uploaded

Everything runs in your browser using WebAssembly. Your video never leaves your device—no servers, no cloud.

Fast When You Let It Be

Stream copy skips re-encoding. A 20-minute video can strip its audio in well under a minute if the formats are compatible.

Grab Both in One Pass

Need the muted video AND the audio file? Select 'Both' and the tool produces them in one run instead of two.

How the Audio Remover Works

Muting or extracting—without sending the video anywhere

Step 1: Add your video

Drag and drop a file or try the example. Supports MP4, WebM, MOV, AVI, and most other common formats up to 2GB. The tool detects whether the video has audio and adjusts what you can do with it.

Try the example video first if you just want to see how the options work before uploading anything of your own.

Step 2: Pick what you want done

A few things to decide:

Operation: extract the audio only, mute the video only, or do both at once

Time range: set a start and end if you only want part of the video

Audio format: MP3, WAV, AAC, or OGG for the extracted file

Video format: MP4, WebM, or MOV for the muted output

Step 3: Dial in quality and speed

Trade-offs to think about:

Audio bitrate: 96 kbps to 320 kbps. Lower encodes faster, higher sounds better

Speed mode: skips what it can skip for faster processing

Video quality: Stream Copy is fastest since it doesn't re-encode the video at all

Preview your settings before processing

Step 4: Process and download

Once configured:

Watch processing progress with real-time status

Download the audio file, the muted video, or both

Grab everything in one go if you generated multiple files

Go back and reprocess with different settings if you need

Tip: If you're just stripping audio without changing anything else, set quality to Stream Copy. The video stream gets copied byte-for-byte, which means zero quality loss and the fastest possible processing.

Your Video Stays on Your Device

Unlike other online video tools, PixDuplicate does all the work locally in your browser using WebAssembly. That means:

Your video never leaves your device
No uploads, no cloud processing
No sign-up or personal info needed
Completely free with no limits
No watermarks on your output
Works offline after the page loads

Callum Whitfield

"Used this to strip the audio from some old lecture recordings so I could reuse the video as B-roll. Stream copy made it fast—didn't have to wait for a re-encode. Would be 5 stars if there were a way to preview what the extracted audio sounds like before downloading."

Delilah Nakamura

"I make educational content and constantly need the audio track separately for transcripts. Extracting to MP3 takes a few seconds per video. Not the flashiest tool but it does one thing well, which is what I want."

Foster Brennan

"The 'Both' mode is what keeps me coming back. I create silent versions of clips AND keep the audio for editing—doing it in one pass saves me a step. Local processing matters too since some of this is client work under NDA."

Adaeze Okafor

"Works fine for what I need—muting videos for social posts. The precision timing is useful for cutting out a specific section. Only complaint is that processing sometimes takes a minute or so on longer videos even with stream copy enabled. Could be my laptop though."

9/17/2025

Bennett Ashworth

"Does the job but the interface is busy—there are a lot of options and I only ever use three of them. Wish I could set defaults so I don't have to re-select 'Stream Copy' and 'MP3' every time. Small thing but it adds up when I'm doing twenty clips in a row."

4/8/2026

Marguerite Solberg

"Extracted audio from my grandmother's old home videos to preserve separately from the video files. The quality came out clean—no compression artifacts that I could hear. Made me realize how much audio was hiding in files I'd almost forgotten about."

Common Questions

What video formats are supported?

Input: MP4, WebM, MOV, AVI, and other common formats up to 2GB. For the muted video output: MP4, WebM, or MOV. For the extracted audio: MP3, WAV, AAC, or OGG.

Can I extract audio from a video that has no sound?

No—if there's no audio track to pull, there's nothing to extract. The tool detects this and tells you up front. You can still use it to mute the video (which removes the empty track) or upload a different video that has audio.

Does speed mode affect quality?

Not really, in most cases. When you pick Stream Copy for the video, the video stream isn't re-encoded at all—it's copied byte-for-byte, so quality is identical. The audio might be re-encoded depending on the format you choose, but at 192 kbps or higher the difference is imperceptible.

Is there a file size limit?

Up to 2GB per video. For standard processing, staying under 10 minutes is smoother. With Speed Mode and stream copying, you can push that to 30 minutes or more.

How is this private?

Everything runs locally in your browser using WebAssembly. Your video never gets uploaded anywhere. Matters when the footage is confidential or not public yet.

Can I extract from just part of the video?

Yes. Set a start and end time—either by scrubbing the player to a point and clicking 'Set Start' or 'Set End,' or by typing exact times. Millisecond precision is available if you need it.

MP3, WAV, AAC, or OGG—which audio format should I pick?

MP3 works everywhere and the files are small. WAV is uncompressed, larger, but lossless. AAC gives good quality at smaller sizes, common on Apple devices. OGG is an open format with good compression. If you don't have a reason to pick otherwise, MP3.

Can I get both the audio AND the muted video?

Yes. Pick 'Both' as the operation and the tool produces two files in one pass—the extracted audio and the muted video. Faster than running it twice.

Does muting a video hurt the video quality?

No. With Stream Copy mode, the video stream is copied as-is. You're only removing the audio track—the picture is untouched. Zero quality loss, zero re-encoding.

Why would someone remove audio from a video?

Silent B-roll for editing. Stripping copyrighted music before posting. Cleaning up a clip you want to add different audio to. Extracting the audio separately for a transcript. Sometimes the original audio is just unusable and you'd rather start clean.
