GIF or WebP—which should I pick?

WebP is smaller (usually 25 to 35 percent) and processes faster, but it's slightly less universally supported—though every modern browser handles it fine now. GIF works literally everywhere, including in older software. For modern web and social, WebP. For maximum reach, GIF.

Are my videos private?

Yes. Everything runs locally in your browser using WebAssembly. Your video never gets uploaded anywhere. There's no server storing or processing anything.

How long a video can I convert?

You can technically convert anything up to 2GB, but keep in mind that a GIF of even a 30-second clip at 30 FPS gets enormous. For most uses, 3 to 10 seconds is the sweet spot. Longer than that and you're looking at a file that's annoying to share.

Why can I only crop GIFs and not WebP?

Cropping after conversion relies on GIF-specific processing. WebP uses a different compression format that doesn't handle the same approach. If you need a cropped animation, convert to GIF first, crop, and then convert to WebP afterward if you want the smaller file.

What happens to my converted files?

They stay in your browser's memory for the session. Close the tab and they're gone. If you want to keep them, download them before you leave.

How does the caching work?
