Why People Use PixDuplicate's Video Censor Tool

Four Ways to Hide Something

Blur for soft coverage, pixelate for a blocky mosaic, a solid black box for complete hiding, or a custom color box if you want it to blend in.

Precise Timing Per Area

Each censor area has its own start and end time, down to the millisecond. A face blurred for ten seconds, a plate for two—each gets what it needs.

As Many Areas as You Want

Blur one face, pixelate a plate, and drop a box over a document in the same video. Each one has its own position, size, and timing.

Nothing Gets Uploaded

Everything runs in your browser. Sensitive footage never leaves your device—no servers, no cloud. That's the whole point of the tool.

Stack More on Top

Noticed something after you processed? Load the finished video back in and add another censor area. No need to start from the original.

Export in Common Formats

MP4, WebM, or MOV, with quality settings. Pick whatever matches where the video is going.

How the Video Censor Tool Works

Covering sensitive content—without sending the video anywhere

Step 1: Add your video

Drag and drop a file or try the example. Supports MP4, WebM, MOV, AVI, and QuickTime up to 500MB.

Try the example video first if you just want to see how the censor areas work before uploading anything of your own.

Step 2: Mark what needs hiding

A few things to set up:

Draw a box: click and drag on the video preview to mark the area

Pick your effect: blur, pixelate, solid black box, or a custom color box

Dial in strength: how intense the blur or pixelation is

Box color: if you want it to match the scene instead of standing out

Step 3: Set timing for each area

Every censor area gets its own schedule:

Millisecond precision on start and end times

Independent timing per area—they don't have to match

Adjust timing after adding if the first pass isn't right

See when each area is active during preview playback

Step 4: Process and download

Once you're set:

Preview the censored video to check the areas look right

Download with all censoring applied

Load it back in and add more censoring if you missed something

Pick output quality based on where the video's going

Tip: If a face moves across the frame during a scene, add a couple of censor areas with overlapping times and shift them as the subject moves. Takes a few seconds per area but you don't need to redo the whole thing.

Sensitive Video Stays on Your Device

Unlike cloud-based censorship tools, PixDuplicate does all the work locally in your browser using WebAssembly. That means:

Your video never leaves your device
No uploads, no external processing
No sign-up or personal info needed
Completely free with no limits
No watermarks on your censored video
Works offline after the page loads

What Users Are Saying

Documentary editors, social managers, and privacy-conscious folks use PixDuplicate to censor video

4.2

Based on 78 reviews

Sienna Caldwell

"Does the job for documentary work but you have to be patient with moving subjects. I've censored faces in about 20 interview clips so far—when the subject sits still it's fast, when they lean around you're adjusting boxes. The millisecond timing controls mean I never miss a frame though."

Josiah Beaumont

"I run a YouTube channel where I review cars and get plates in the shot constantly. This lets me blur about eight plates in a five-minute video without exporting to Premiere. Local processing means no waiting for uploads either."

9/27/2026

Maribel Espinoza

"Used this to redact patient info from some training videos for a clinic. The iterative censoring was the winner—I did a first pass, reviewed the export, and added three more areas without touching the original. Would be 5 stars if it could auto-detect faces."

12/16/2024

Felix Vandergrift

"Solid tool but slower than I expected on a 4-minute 1080p video—took about 3 minutes to process. Fine for what it does but not the fastest. The blur strength control is nice; you can go from subtle to absolutely unrecoverable."

6/11/2027

Annika Solberg

"I use this for footage from protests where I need to protect sources. The fact that nothing gets uploaded is non-negotiable—I'm not sending this footage to any server. The only downside is no tracking, so for people moving through the frame you're doing it manually."

5/22/2024

Reggie Thornton

"Handles my video podcast edits well. Blur one guest's face for a segment, black box over a whiteboard, both timed independently. No complaints. The output quality holds up at Medium—I couldn't tell the difference from the original."

Common Questions

What censor effects are there?

Four: blur (a Gaussian soft blur), pixelate (blocky mosaic), black box (solid black rectangle), and color box (solid rectangle in whatever color you pick). Blur keeps the most visual context, pixelate hides more, and the boxes hide everything.

Can I censor multiple areas at once?

Yes, as many as you need. Each area has its own position, size, effect type, and timing. You can blur a face from 0:12 to 0:38 while a plate stays pixelated only from 0:15 to 0:22.

How precise is the timing?

Millisecond-level. You can set exact start and end times for each censor area, so the effect kicks in precisely when the sensitive content shows up and disappears when it's done. No gaps or over-censoring.

Are my videos private?

Yes. Everything runs locally in your browser using WebAssembly. Your footage never gets uploaded anywhere. That matters most when the whole reason you're censoring is to protect what's in the video.

Can I add more censoring after processing?

Yes. Load the finished video back in and add more censor areas without touching the original. Useful when you spot something on a review pass that you missed the first time.

What formats are supported?

Input: MP4, WebM, MOV, AVI, QuickTime. Output: MP4, WebM, MOV. MP4 is the safe default for compatibility.

Is there a file size or length limit?

Up to 500MB per video. No strict length limit, but longer videos take longer to process. Anything under 10 minutes tends to go smoothly.

How do I mark the area to censor?

Click and drag on the video preview to draw a box. Resize it from the corners or by typing in exact pixel values. What you see in the preview is what gets censored.

Can I blur moving faces?

Yes, but there's no automatic tracking. For moving subjects you add multiple censor areas with overlapping times, shifting the box as the subject moves. Works well for slow movement or brief passes. Fast, erratic motion takes more manual work.

Why browser-based instead of cloud?

Because sensitive video is sensitive. Uploading faces or documents to a random server defeats the point of censoring them in the first place. Local processing means nothing leaves your device, and it works offline after the page loads.
