Frequently Asked Questions

What is an image color picker and why would I need one?

An image color picker is a tool that extracts exact color values from images. It's essential for designers matching brand colors, developers needing precise hex codes, or anyone creating consistent color schemes across projects. It eliminates guesswork and ensures color accuracy.

What color formats does PixDuplicate's color picker support?

Our color picker provides colors in multiple formats: HEX (hexadecimal), RGB (red, green, blue), HSL (hue, saturation, lightness), and CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, key/black). Each format can be copied to your clipboard with one click.

How does the automatic palette generation work?

Our palette generator uses advanced color quantization algorithms to analyze your image and extract the most dominant and visually important colors. You can specify how many colors you want (3-12), and the tool will create a harmonious palette that represents the image's color distribution.

Can I pick colors from transparent PNG images?

Yes! Our color picker fully supports PNG images with transparency. When you click on a transparent area, the tool will show the actual transparent value. For semi-transparent pixels, it shows the color with its alpha channel value.

How accurate is the color extraction?

The color extraction is pixel-perfect. We read the exact RGB values from the pixel you click on, ensuring 100% accuracy. The zoom feature helps you target the exact pixel you want when working with detailed images or subtle color variations.

Can I export my color palettes?

Absolutely! You can export your color palettes in multiple formats including CSS variables, JSON data, Adobe Swatch Exchange (ASE), and as PNG images. This makes it easy to import your palettes into design software or share them with team members.

What's the maximum image size I can upload?

You can upload images up to 50MB. For best performance and faster color picking, we recommend using images under 10MB. The tool automatically handles high-resolution images efficiently.

Does the color picker work with animated GIFs?

Yes, but the color picker will extract colors from the first frame of animated GIFs. If you need colors from different frames, you can use our GIF frame extractor tool first, then use the color picker on individual frames.

Can I save my color history for later?

The color history is maintained during your current session. You can export your picked colors or palettes to save them permanently. We're considering adding local storage support to persist history across sessions in a future update.

Is there a limit to how many colors I can pick?

No! You can pick as many colors as you need from any image. The color history will track all your picks during your session, and you can generate multiple palettes with different color counts.
